My research activities in the past 30 years dealt with aspects of the large-scale and micro-scale dynamics of the tropical atmosphere, and particularly, in the recent years, the land-surface/atmosphere mass and energy exchange processes.
The contributions to knowledge from these efforts can be categorized along three (3) main research themes. The first aspect is dynamics over West Africa and emanated from my doctoral research on the dynamical structure of the atmosphere during the West African Monsoon Experiment (WAMEX). The second is the meteorological aspects of air pollution and was oriented towards development of air pollution dispersion models suitable for the low latitudes (e.g. tropical West Africa). Similarly, I have investigated winds in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) using conventional devices (cup anemometers, ultrasonic anemometer) and non-conventional devices such as acoustic sounder (SODAR). Thirdly, I have carried out measurements of mass, momentum and energy fluxes in the surface layer. Presently, I lead a team, Nigeria Micrometeorological Experiment (NIMEX), investigating the land surface mass and energy exchanges. I am also a researcher participating in the DACCIWA (Dynamics-Aerosols-Chemistry-Clouds Interactions in West Africa) project.

Professional Accomplishments:
(a) Design and implementation of the Nigerian Micrometeorological Experiment (NIMEX-1) network: 15th Feb. – 15th March, 2004. This is a multi-institutional project (OAU, University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology, and the University of Bayreuth, Germany) for which I had the sole responsibility of formulating the project goals, siting of experimental location (at the Teaching and Research farm, OAU), instrument designs and support, and overall organization. It is a major effort (both in terms of facility and personnel) and everything from the project concepts to the field installations, had to be taken from the scratch.
(b) Dynamics-Aerosol-Chemistry-Cloud Interactions in West Africa (DACCIWA) Project. I am a lead project investigator
